We love camping and this 1976 Scotty trailer was our first camper. We made so many memories in this sweet little thing. Now that it’s fall, mice will move into RVs, houses, and garages to keep warm, so it’s time to use one of these ideas to keep them out of your living space.
Pet Mice Care
Keep a bar or two of Irish spring soap in the trailer. Animals absolutely hate the strong smell of soap and will stay away from it. You can leave the soap in your garage or basement, or anywhere else you suspect pests may be hiding.
Place dryer sheets in areas where you suspect animals may enter or hide. Be sure to change your bedding every week.
Moth balls are also a good idea. I personally don’t like using it, but others don’t mind the smell…
Keeping the area clean and tidy will help keep animals from hiding. Also make sure all food is stored and covered.

Cold winter weather makes your home more attractive to rodents fleeing the cold, making it a common time for an infestation. If you don’t address the problem right away, you could quickly find your space infested with pests.
Act now and you can deal with the problem before it gets out of control. Here’s what you need to do to prevent mice from entering your home.
As the most common mammal in the world, house mice are native to central Asia and thrive in comfortable indoor environments. Most weigh less than an ounce and only live between 9-18 months. However, house mice are prolific breeders and can produce new litters every 25 days, meaning a pair can have more than 5,000 young a year.
How To Get Rid Of Mice –12 Easy Ways Using Cat Litter, Humane Traps And More
A rodent infestation is more than just a disease – the animals can cause serious damage to your home and your health. According to the CDC, rats carry more than 35 diseases that can be transmitted to humans and can exacerbate allergies and asthma in those who come into close contact.
These tiny rodents can quickly cause problems in your home by gnawing on wires, plastics and rubber materials. Their urine-filled nests will quickly destroy any clothing or bedding that comes into contact with them.
Do you have mice in your house? Here are some of the most common signs of infection.
Act immediately if you notice signs of mice in your home. Waiting gives rats more opportunity to establish themselves and makes them much more difficult to exterminate. Here are the steps to get rid of the problem.
How To Keep Mice Out Of Campers
Your first step toward extermination is to determine how the mice entered your home. This will require a bit of detective work, as mice can slip through dime-sized holes.
Carefully inspect the walls, especially at floor level, for any unnoticed holes. Be sure to move the furniture around to see which holes are hidden.
Next, you need to make your home hospitable by providing as much potential nesting material as possible. This can include scrap paper, blankets, cardboard, fabric, toilet paper, and more. Store as much of this material as is practical in heavy plastic bins to minimize access.
Now is the time to set traps and actively chase mice that are already in your home. There are many styles to choose from, price, method, effectiveness and risk factors for the rest of the household.
Why Do Mice Come Into Homes In The Summer
As the most common mouse trap in use today, traps use a quick trigger that effectively kills mice attracted to the bait. Different types are available including bar, shell and stealth kill.
One of the advantages of these traps is that the dead mouse stays in the trap, so you don’t have to worry about finding them in hidden corners of your house later. However, many prefer not to handle the traps after they have successfully set them.
These traps work by luring rats into chambers where they deliver a lethal electric shock. Some models, like the Victor M250S, can run up to 100 mice on a set of batteries, with a 100% kill rate. All electric traps are designed to be safe for pets and children.
This low-tech option works as you’d expect – the mice get stuck to the sticky board and stay that way until you deal with them. Although inexpensive, these traps can only be used once, and you can release or discard a live mouse.
How To Get Rid Of Mice
This controversial baiting method involves sealed packets of poison designed to attract rats. When they penetrate the packaging, they get poisoned and eventually die. The problems with this method are twofold: first, the mice don’t die in the trap, it expires inside the walls of your house and you lose. Likewise, pets can take the bait and experience gastrointestinal problems.
Keep mice out of your space with sprays or scented bags designed to repel them. This humane treatment does not kill rats, but must be applied regularly to maintain effectiveness. Also, most of them are not strong enough to hold off even the most persistent rodents.
These humane mousetraps contain chambers with trigger-activated doors. They are designed to trap mice and won’t open again until you decide to let them go. This allows you to move the mice outside instead of completely ending their lives.
Note that it is recommended that you release them within a mile of your home; Otherwise, intelligent rats are likely to return.
Ways To Keep Mice Away From Your Home
Similar to other forms of rodent repellants, ultrasonic repellers use high-frequency waves to stimulate the nervous system of rodents and keep them away from your home. Most traps will work against crows and other insects.
Many humane mousetraps will end up leaving you with a live mouse. The best thing to do is to place the whole trap in a heavy plastic bag and take it at least a kilometer from home to a natural area before releasing it.
Spacing is necessary because house mice are not naturally adapted to living outdoors and will quickly seek out any available shelter. If they can’t find it, released rats are often easy prey for hawks and foxes.
This is something to consider when first weighing the merits of using “humane” traps – even if you feel good about feeding the local predator population.

Dead mice are easy to dispose of. Save your hands and throw the body in the trash before grabbing the trap. Do not flush them down the toilet and avoid adding them to the compost pile because of the potential for disease. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling them.
The cliché is true – cats are the best mice. Not only are these small rodents afraid of their smell, but cats are natural predators of rodents and love nothing more than to hunt them. If your household can support a cat, it offers the best rodent protection available.
If a cat doesn’t fit your lifestyle, consider confusing rats with ammonia. Soak them in cotton wool and the urine-like smell will convince them that the predator is hidden from view.
As long as you don’t do anything to attract more rats into your home, the extermination results will last a long time.
