Where would we be without science? Our decision-making, virtues, beliefs and understanding of the world would be unrecognizable. The paradigm shift that brought us to this point began a few hundred years ago with the Enlightenment.People began to question what ‘was’ and looked for evidence to corroborate the status quo.Immense thinkers began to challenge the so-called “truth” and instead sought objectivity. Before long, faith was not enough.Things had to be falsifiable; to be tested and tested before being accepted.Fast forward a few hundred years and human progress at the hands of science has been astounding. Now it’s hard to imagine life without him. However, there are undoubted advantages and disadvantages of science to consider. Yes, life would be very different without him, but those differences wouldn’t all be unfortunate.Wondering about the pros and cons of science? Read! THE ADVANTAGES OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYLet’s start with the advantages of science and technology. Here are 5 main ways I think the world improves.1. SCIENCE LEADS TO KNOWLEDGE AND DISCOVERYScience broadens our understanding of life. There is no way we know as much as we know about the world without it. Every day, there are scientists from all disciplines under the sun watching. It examines the mysteries of existence and asks “why?” » And « how? » Science seeks knowledge and objectivity. Take what we think we know and seek to prove it.In essence, science is about getting closer to the truth. Scientific effort helps us find answers to the deepest problems and leads us down the path of discovery.2. SCIENCE FACILITATES PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENTThat expansion of knowledge equals progress. That, to me, is what science is all about.Think about how far we have come as a species. 10,000 years ago we were wandering around like hunter-gatherers! We are now almost 8 billion and we are flying drones and manufacturing driverless vehicles. The growth of the last century is staggering. It’s hard to imagine life without the internet now. But 100 years ago there weren’t even televisions! And it’s all thanks to science. It pushes our boundaries, tests our claims, and leads to new discoveries that revolutionize life itself. We don’t know what the future holds, but we can be sure that scientific progress will be a driving force behind it.
Another advantage of science and technology is its ability to challenge misconceptions. Only then will you be able to move on.3. SCIENCE CHALLENGES FALSE BELIEFSAssumptions and stubbornness have caused incalculable devastation in the world. They have caused death, starvation, war and countless atrocities. For example, until relatively recently, our entire medical model was based on (false) ideas formed by the ancient Greeks. The ailments were caused by the balance of 4 elements/humors in our system. Those ideas persisted for millennia. Who knows how many people perished as a result?Only with the persistence, brilliance, and scientific approaches of a few incredible minds were we able to move toward modern medical practices that save countless lives each year.Science is about counterfeiting. Look at ideas and say “try it”! If you can’t, we won’t believe you. In this way, science channels us out of ignorance and down a path of fulfillment.4. SCIENCE SOLVES PROBLEMSThe world is full of problems. And science takes a proactive approach to solving them.Again, look at the progress we have made as a civilization. Almost all the advances, small or monumental, we have made are the result of scientific problem solving.Think of the world’s life-changing inventions: vaccines, smartphones, the light bulb, airplanes…None of them would have been possible without testing, experimentation, curiosity, and challenging assumptions. Science is the champion of progress. And he sees no progress without solving problems.5. SCIENCE INFORMS DECISION-MAKINGIf you’re lucky, you live in a society where making important decisions is based on solid scientific evidence.Identify a problem. You develop a theory. You cultivate a hypothesis. You put together a structured set of tests to see if that hypothesis is right or wrong. It develops falsifiable results that can be questioned by others. In the process, you walk away with answers and direction. Now he knows whether his ideas could work or not. Science takes the guesswork out of it and restores order. Without it, we would be shooting from the hip and in the dark in search of accurate decision-making.
There are also many disadvantages of science. Here are 5 of the ones I can think of… THE DISADVANTAGES OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYAnd the bad guys! Here are 5 disadvantages of science as I see it.1. SCIENCE CONFRONTS SPIRITUALITYMatters of faith naturally conflict with scientific effort. They exist in different worlds. Science is a world of objectivity; spirituality, one of subjectivity.Let’s say I believe in a particular God. That belief brings me hope, satisfaction, and meaning. I am a better person because of that faith in the God in question.A person of science comes and says, ‘You know that Your God proves that they exist.’ And I say, ‘I can’t, I just believe.’The science person tells me that I am deceiving myself, that I am deceived and foolish. My God does not exist without trial. That’s hard to hear. It is degrading, condescending, insulting and unjust.Equally important, however, it prevents that scientific person from achieving the immense positivity that faith and religion can provide.2. SCIENCE IS COLD, RATIONAL AND SUBVERSIVEThere is something cold and clinical about science. It is the whitewashed and sterile environment of a laboratory in the face of the transcendent, warm and multicolored vibration of the Sistene Chapel. It is the refusal to accept that life can have more than what is seen with the naked eye.As much as science has catapulted human progress, it can hinder your personal experience of the world. Everything needs to be tested to believe it; it removes the mystery of the world, which can be a vital source of hope.
